In the summer of 2015 something happened that changed my life. I had never been athletic– my sisters both ran track in high school, and my dad ran–, but I never saw myself as a runner. I could be a walker, perhaps, but that was it. Then I read the book Mindset by Carol Dweck; if you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. That book made me realize that the only thing that was keeping me from being a runner was my belief about being a runner. Since that time, I have run over 1,000 miles. I can now run 3 or 4 miles at a time when I once was winded if I ran for more than a minute. I'm not terribly fast, but I have been persistent. This year I'm setting some new goals that include:
- Run at least 12 miles per week.
- Strength train at least 2 times per week.
- Run in a minimum of 3 race events; work to include one 5 miler or 10K.
This is my 2017 training log. Hopefully it will most often show that I'm working to my goals. If so, a shout-out might just make my day; if not, maybe you will be my cheerleader. Here's to a more fit me in 2017!
